Marvelous Mangoes
Mangoes are one of the most well-known fruit in the world but aren’t used as often as fruit like apples, bananas and oranges. They are popular in the Indian culture, possibly due to their origin being from India. They are often used in curries and made into mango chutney for more versatile uses.
Mangoes are great sources of vitamin A and C. The predominant antioxidant in mangoes is beta carotene which plays an important role in preventing tumour growth or restricting the growth of existing tumours. They are also sources of vitamin B6 which enhance the production of serotonin and improves a person’s mood.
They are low GI fruit, but should be eaten in moderation – ½ a fruit or ½ a cup of chopped mango is equal to one fruit portion. They have a wonderful sweet taste and can be used in anything from appetizers, sauces and main courses to desserts and smoothies.
