We dig the fig


Figs have a range of health attributes as it contains various vitamins, minerals and other beneficial components.

Figs are good sources of natural fibre which assist in keeping blood pressure constant. The following vitamins and minerals can be found in figs:

  • Manganese

  • Magnesium

  • Copper

  • Potassium (also beneficial in preventing high blood pressure)

  • Calcium

  • Vitamin K

  • Vitamin B6

Figs are often dried. This not only increases their shelf life, but also the nutrient density of various nutrients, specifically calcium. ½ cup of dried figs provides almost the same amount of calcium as ½ cup of cow’s milk.

Figs are high in antioxidants and therefor have cancer fighting properties. Other benefits include assisting in heart health and preventing liver and kidney problems.
